We Launched BBCIcecream.com Ten Years Ago today!

December 11th, 2005 – the day we launched the Billionaire Boys Club site. Back in the days before the iPhone, when websites were heavy with Flash and nobody was looking at the internet on their telephones!

New Billionaire Boys Club Shop

We’re one month away from the ten year anniversary of the launch of the original Billionaire Boys Club site. And today we officially relaunched the web shop on a new platform (Shopify) and relaunched the NYC Flagship store with a new Point Of Sale system (Shopify POS.)

I spent the last two days at the store, overseeing the switch. A few migration issues aside, the transition has been smooth and the store staff seems very happy with the new system. Previously the physical store was on System A and the web shop was on System B, and we had Some Other Thing sitting in between the two, trying to force these two unrelated systems to work together. Now, on Shopify, the physical store and web shop can share inventory seamlessly. It’s a whole new world!

2013 Year In Review

Oh hey, Happy New Year and all that.

This blog has been quiet over the past few months, but it would be foolish to assume this means that Fishbucket has been asleep. When the workload gets heavy, announcing what we’ve been working on drops pretty far in the priority list. So here’s a look back at Fishbucket’s 2013, and a look to the future.

Rocawear

rocYou know we’re sleeping on updates when we launch the official e-commerce site for Rocawear and don’t take the time to shout “Hey! we launched the official e-commerce site for Rocawear!” This project was done through the good folks over at Iconix. It’s powered by Magento, (which made me appreciate the ease of Shopify all the more, but that’s a story for another day.)

Billionaire Boys Club

bbc-shorter2013 marked the brand’s tenth anniversary, and we’re proud to have been a part of it since the beginning. (or, well, since the beginning of their website in 2005.) 2013 saw a redesign of the site, plus ongoing design and development work. We have some more site enhancements in the works that should be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Slumerican

slumericanA good chunk of time in 2013 was dedicated to the site for Yelawolf’s Slumerican site. This one is going to be awesome – a throwback to the old days when Fishbucket sites were all Flash, and extra quirky and unusual. Although this one’s not using Flash at all. I’m excited to reveal it, which should be happening in the next month or so.

Mechanical Dummy

mdWe’ve been working on Chris Brown’s Mechanical Dummy for a while now, mostly maintenance and development, but in 2013 had the opportunity to completely redesign the site. That redesign isn’t live yet, but will be soon. Very soon. Like, tomorrow soon. Stay tuned.

Cinematic Music Group

smokersWe had ongoing work in 2013 for a bunch of different projects under the Cinematic banner, including Big K.R.I.T., ASTR and Pro Era. Also, a redesigned Smokers Club site which featured a collaboration with the crazy talented Growing Pains Studios.

Shopify

shopsWe somehow gained “Expert” status with Shopify, and launched a few shops recently – including aNYthing and Super Mookin’ Fiends – plus some development work for The Primary Essentials (design and art direction on that one by the great Winsome Brave.)

The Team

I couldn’t talk about 2013 without mentioning the growing team of talented designers and developers who make Fishbucket work. I especially want to mention Nate, Ted and Susan, who have been a huge help in the past year.

2014

Much more on the way, but instead of listing more links I’ll just say “more soon” and that I hope you all have a 2014 of extra-ordinary magnitude.

New BBC Icecream Homepage

Hot off the presses, today we launched a new homepage for our friends over at the Billionaire Boys Club. We did away with the scrolling lookbook that’s been chuffing by for the past few years. Now highlighting what’s going on in the shop, pulling in content, and other stuff that the kids enjoy these days.

New BBC Ice Cream Web Store

Just two days short of its six-year anniversary, the BBC ICECREAM web store relaunched today. It’s based on a different e-commerce system, and we went with a cleaner and more streamlined design this time. (Which is obvious if you recall the previous version!)



Also worth noting: Things move! Without Flash! I still like Flash and hope it doesn’t die off completely, but it’s been good to try out some alternatives so I can make things move without relying on it. (Only in the most recent non-IE browsers, of course.)

Big thanks to Loic Villepontoux. I’ve been working with him for about a decade now, and his art direction and instincts are always on point. (Thanks to Phillip and Mimi and Chief too!)

New BBC Ice Cream Homepage

We just launched a new homepage for BBC Ice Cream. I did one of these “look back” posts when we launched the third version of the Star Trak site, so hey why not one for BBC too?

 

DECEMBER 11, 2005: “SPINNER”

This was the first official BBC Ice Cream site. The homepage was just a spinner toy thing that let you pick which side to go into. Little-known fact: If you click the spinner (instead of one of the two sides) it’ll spin and randomly send you to whichever side it lands on. Littler-known fact: you can still spin the spinner.


 

AUGUST 27, 2007: “BBC WORLD”

I brought out the pencils and sketched what a BBC world would look like. (and later uploaded that original sketch on ARTST.) This was also the day the BBC Blog launched, which has been tremendously popular. Of all Fishbucket-created sites, this gets the most traffic by far. Since we added google analytics in November 2007 the site has had nearly 15 million visits.

 

AUGUST 27, 2010: THE NEW STYLE

So, to commemorate the three-year anniversary of the last major update, we set out to simplify and streamline the homepage. We’re now showing the current season front and center, and styling the page to correspond with the blog. Expect this style to change seasonally instead of every 2-3 years!
